Arise Ghana Demo: Protestors Clash With Police
Hundreds of protestors at the Krom Aye Hye demonstration clashed with police officers earlier today.
Organisers of the demonstration, Arise Ghana Movement defied court orders to protest beyond 4pm and were unhappy about the police’s decision to restrict movement. This led to a misunderstanding between the police and the protestors, which eventually led to a clash.
It is said that stones were pelted at the police and their vehicles by protesters, and the police in the process fired shots and tear gas. Some demonstrators say they were live bullets while others say they were rubber bullets.
Injured persons were taken to the hospital for medical attention with one protestor undergoing an emergency eye surgery.
The police in a press release stated the arrest of twenty-nine protestors and others being pursued. According to them, security footages are still being reviewed to help them lay hands on the other protestors involved in the violence.
It is currently uncertain how the protest is going to take form today but the pressure group Arise Ghana, is bent on making their grievance known to the Akufo-Addo government through their demonstration.
