Akufo-Addo asks CJ to look into petition for Jean Mensa’s removal by #FixTheCountry group
President Akufo-Addo has formally written to the Chief Justice, Kwesi Anin Yeboah, to look into a petition sent to his office by leaders of pressure group #FixTheCountry over the conduct of the EC Chair, Jean Mensa.
The group petitioned the President to remove the EC Chair following the disenfranchisement of the people of SALL in the 2020 parliamentary election.
The President has since forwarded the petition to the Chief justice to begin a process of establishing a prima facie case against the EC Chair.
The group in its petition, also demanded the removal of the two deputy commissioners at the EC.
Contending that the conduct of the EC officials in the SALL issue “meets the threshold of stated misbehaviour and, or incompetence as required under Article 146 of the 1992 Constitution for the removal of these officials.”
In the petition signed by 46 persons, a lead convener for the campaign, Oliver Barker-Vormawor noted that their move “is an exercise in seeking constitutional accountability.”
