Akro Sectech shut down after students lynch suspected thief
The Eastern Regional Education Directorate and the Municipal Security Council have shut down Akro Secondary Technical School in the Eastern Region.
The move follows the lynching of a suspected thief by students.
Two suspected thieves reportedly invaded the girls’ dormitory on Friday, January 21 and were ambushed by the livid students and assaulted.
One of the suspects, Sackitey Emmanuel Kpabitey( a former pantry man of the school) later died at the St. Martin’s de Porres Hospital from his injury.
Two days after the lynching, some town folks stormed the school in anger during a PTA meeting but school authorities were able to diffuse the situation.
The regional Education Directorate says the decision to shut down the school is to avert any reprisal attacks.
