2022 in Review: KiDi bounces back from controversial tweet saga

Whether highlighted in conversational points for good or bad, 2022 brought with it some of entertainment’s most memorable moments.  As 2022 draws to a close, Mx24 Online reflects on some of the years most talked about moments, which to some degree shaped the entertainment and lifestyle landscape in Ghana.

The ‘Sugar Daddy’ of Ghanaian music, KiDi may have scored several hits with singles and collaborations but 2022 was the singer’s most controversial year yet. The ‘Champagne’ crooner had a blast from the past when some old tweets were unearthed causing the singer to issue apologies for what many described as offensive.

KiDi in his tweets took swipes at former presidents John Mahama, John Agyekum Kufour and President Akufo-Addo. Other entertainment personalities like Sarkodie and Anita Akuffo also had a swipe taken at them.

As headlines swirled around the tweet saga, KiDi issued an apology saying “I apologize to those I offended with these actions in my past. I hope we can focus our energy to putting Ghana music on the map together.”

As hoopla from the controversial tweets cooled in the months that followed, KiDi dominated digitally with Touch and Blessed charting on Billboard’s Top Triller Global chart. He ended the month of October with a headlining concert in Gambia performing to a crowd of over 50,000 fans.
