2022 in Review: Black Sherif’s Incredible Year in Music
Whether highlighted in conversational points for good or bad, 2022 brought with it some of entertainment’s most memorable moments. As 2022 draws to a close, Mx24 Online reflects on some of the years most talked about moments, which to some degree shaped the entertainment and lifestyle landscape in Ghana.
Since dropping the first of his two sermons, Black Sherif has remained consistent with releasing hit songs. He ended the year 2022 as the most streamed Ghanaian artiste according to music streaming giant, Spotify, debuting behind Nigeria’s Burna Boy.
His hit single “Kwaku the Traveller” released in March reached number 1 on Ghana’s and Nigerian Apple Music charts. By August of 2022 it was the most shazamed song in the world across all genres.
For Blacko, the recognition is well deserved, as 2022 stands as his most successful year yet but the numbers. His debut album ‘The Villain I Never Was’ was the second most streamed album of the year 2022. The first single from the album ‘Soja’ was a viral anthem for youth worldwide. Black Sherif was also the first Ghanaian artiste to reach a 100 million streams on Boomplay and secured his first nomination as Best International Flow for the 2022 BET Awards.
Although relatively new in the musical landscape, Black Sherif has fast become one of Ghana’s best exports.
