2022/23 GPL: Asante Kotoko beat FC Samartex, Tamale City stun Dreams FC

Defending Ghana Premier League champions Asante Kotoko scored two first-half goals to beat FC Samartex 1996 2-1 at  Nsenkyire Park at Sameraboi on Saturday.

Enock Morrison opened the scoring for the champions in the 18th minute before Rocky Dwanena added the sec0nd goal nine minutes later.

After missing several golden opportunities, FC Samartex finally pulled one back through Ebenezer Acquah in the 89th minute but the goal wasn’t enough as Kotoko held on to register their 9th win of the season.

The Porcupine Warriors are now third in the table with 34 points but with a game in hand. The champions are five points behind leaders Aduana Stars and three points adrift of second-placed Accra Lions.

Elsewhere in Tamale, Tamale City brushed off Dreams FC 3-1 at the Aliu Mahama Stadium in Tamale to give themselves a glimmer of hope in their survival charge.

Nafiu Sulemana opened the scoring in the second minute before Sampson Eduku added the second goal five minutes later.

Sampson Eduku made life easier for City after scoring his second and a third for his side in the 68th minute to wrap things up for the hosts before Ali Huzaif reduced the deficit for Dreams FC.
