2022/23 GPL: Aduana Stars held by Accra Lions, Hearts of Oak, Asante Kotoko secure vital wins – Match Week 14 Review
Ghana Premier League leaders Aduana Stars dropped points yet again by Accra Lions on match week 14 as they were held 1-1 by Accra Lions.
The Ogya lads were seeking to extend their lead at the top of the table following Hearts of Oak’s win at Medeama on Saturday but it was the visitors who struck first at Dormaa.
Samari Salifu got the opener for Accra Lions in the 43rd minute to stun the home fans. Back from the break the leaders piled pressure on the visitors in search of the equalizer that paid off in the 69th minute through Solomon Aboagye.
Aduana Stars still sit at the top of the table with 25 points – one point ahead of Asante Kotoko and Hearts who are on 24 points each.
Elsewhere, Steven Mukwala netted a brace as Asante Kotoko defeated bottom placed Kotoku Royals 5-1 at the Baba Yara.
Richmond Lamptey gave Asante Kotoko a well-deserved lead in the 11th minute before Steven Mukwala added the second goal in the 22nd minute but Francis Andy Kumai reduced the deficit for the visitors before the break.
Mukwala bagged his brace in the 61st minute before setting up Ivorian midfielder Serge Zeze for the fourth goal, which was followed by Solomon Safo-Taylor’s late strike to make it 5-1.
On Saturday, Medeama SC suffered yet another home defeat when they fell 1-0 to Hearts of Oak at Akoon Park. The win eases the pressure on Hearts after the MTN FA Cup defeat to Dreams FC.
Kwadwo Obeng Junior scored the only goal of the match in the 34th minute of the first half to grab all the points for the Phobians.
