2021 AFCON: Ghana captain Andre Ayew misses training as precautionary measure ahead of Gabon clash

Ghana skipper, Andre Ayew is set to miss Wednesday’s training session as a precautionary measure ahead of Gabon game on Friday.

Ayew sustained a head injury during Morocco’s game after crashing with a defender which resulted in his head being bandaged.

He was part of Tuesday’s recovery training at the Stade Ahmadou Ahidjo Annexe but will not take part in the team’s training on Wednesday.

The 31-year-old said he was unwell before kick-off against Morocco but was desperate to play the game.

“I have been sick for a few days but I thank God I was able to be on the pitch today with the boys,” he claimed.

“I wanted to play even though I knew I was not fully ready.”

Ayew is confident Ghana will qualify to the round of 16 despite Morocco’s defeat.

Ghana will need to beat Gabon, who defeated Comoros 1-0 in the other group game to stand a chance of progressing to the next stage of the competition.
