2021/22 GPL: Vincent Atinga gives Medeama win over Hearts of Oak at Akoon Park
Vincent Atinga’s late strike helped Medeama beat Hearts of Oak 1-0 in their outstanding Ghana Premier League game at the Akoon Park on Wednesday.
The match day 6 fixture, which was originally scheduled for December, was rescheduled due to the Phobians’ participations in the 2021/22 CAF Inter Club competitions.
Atingah’s 82nd minute goal condemned his former club to their second defeat of the season.
Hearts of Oak defender Robert Addo Sowah run into Amed Toure inside the box as the striker Burkina Faso International stretched to reach a through ball.
The referee pointed to the spot and awarded a penalty in favour of the Mauves and Yellows. Vincent Atinga elected himself to take the kick as sent the Hearts goalkeeper Richmond Ayi the wrong way as he slotted home calmly for the winning goal.
Hearts of Oak finished the game with 10 players as Kwadjo Obeng Junior was sent off in stoppage time for a second yellow card.
The defeat ends Hearts of Oak’s six match unbeaten run – their first loss since November 2021. The result has moved Medeama to the fourth spot on the league log while Hearts of Oak remain in seventh place in the standings after 11 matches in the 2021/22 season.
